Lexi has been doing really well this month, other than getting sick this past week. We've really been focusing on socialization. After our Christmas debacle, with her crying every time someone looked at her, I started looking for everything and anything I could get her involved in. So, on Mondays we go to a new indoor playground they just put in our local mall and then to our local library to read and play. On Tuesdays we go to Kindermusik. On Wednesdays we go to swim lessons. Thursdays is mall and library again. And on Fridays we go to story time at a different library. Since we've started this new schedule I've really seen a difference in how comfortable she is in social situations. When we first started going to the mall to play at the beginning of the month she would literately cry and then flop on the floor every time another kid looked at her or wanted to play with her. She had to hold Momma's hand everywhere she went and needed my help to play on anything. she really only played when we wee there by our selves. This week when we went there were at least 2-3 other kids there the whole time, and she played and interacted with them by herself! She took turns on the slide! So proud!
Lexi has added a bunch of new words to her vocabulary this month. I think she's up to almost 40 words now! She adds a new one every day or two. Her new word today was "march", as in she wanted me to sing the "Ants go Marching" song. Sometimes she'll just repeat words we say, but other times she uses them purposefully, which is really cool! She'll point to her leg and say "dock" when she wants me to sing "Hickory Dickory Dock" because I walk my fingers up her leg when we sing it. She also likes to take my hand and say "walka walk" when she wants me to go somewhere with her. When I put her sock on she says "sock". It's really cool seeing her make all the connections!
This month's words:
Beep (bep)
Wash
Back (mm back)
Up
Walk
Sec (as in just a sec)
Clap
Book (bock)
Apple
Stop
Empty (em)
Orange (unge)
Tucker (tuck)
Colby (co)

March (as in the Ants go Marching)
Lexi's favorite books this month are "Fancy Nancy and the Puppy Party", "Go Dog Go", "Wide Awake Jake", and "If I Were a Jungle Animal". She also has just discovered Micky and Minnie Mouse, so "Minnie Mouse's Magical Story" and "Micky Mouse's Magical Story" have been in the mix a lot, too!
Movies have been an obsession this month. All she wants to do is watch movies :/ Namely "Lady and the Tramp" and "The Little Mermaid". I've been trying to limit it to one a day, but I know I should cut it back to like, three a week. She loves them so much, though, and she'll sit and watch almost a whole movie. It's a nice break for me during the day. I feel guilty even saying that :/ Also, KJ found a Daniel Tiger app for his tablet that she just loves. At least that one is halfway educational.
One of Lexi's favorite toys from Christmas is her Fisher Price Little People Disney Castle. She plays with it all the time and she loves when it signs the songs. She likes to grab her big Clifford and dance in circles with him. It's pretty darn cute! I got her a booster seat a few weeks ago, mostly for travel use, and I've been getting her used to sitting in it. We still use her high chair without the tray, just pushed up to the table during dinner, so I put the booster at our breakfast bar. The other day she insisted that Clifford sit beside her during breakfast. It was so cute! Also when she eats, every couple bites she needs to have her hands cleaned off. It's just her thing lately. She's gotten good at using forks and spoon, too. More of the food gets in her mouth now than not.
She loves to dance and she loves it when I hold her and dance around with her. That's actually how I've been putting her to sleep for naps now. When we first cut out her mid day nursing time I would drive her around in the car to get her to fall asleep.
Lexi is up to 18 teeth. Her bottom right canine came in this month. We're just waiting on her top two canines and then that's it until two year molars.
Lexi had her 18 month app at the beginning of the month. She's 32 3/4 in tall and weights 25lbs. 50th percentile for all. My average girl :) My Grandma was very, very adamant about us measuring her when she turned 18 months. She said that if we double her height, that will be how tall she'll be when she grows up. According to that she'll be 5ft 5 1/2in when she's full grown. taller than me ( I'm 5.4), but I was hopping for 5.7. I guess we'll see in about 14 years!
Lots of Love,
KJsbabe
We are having the same issues with Ava having serious "stranger anxiety". She cries if anyone talks to her or tries to touch her. We really need to work on socialization as well. Where we just stay home all day, every day, she is just used to only myself and Josh... and the grandparents of course. It's hard! Good luck! I need to find some groups to join as well. I'm so ready for my girl to start walking so we can hit up the play area at the mall as well.
ReplyDeleteI also love the busy book you made Lexi! I wish I was good with a sewing machine!
Keeping Lexi socialized is hard, especially with the bad weather. I try to make it a point to take her out every morning for some interaction, but sometimes it's just too cold! For play groups it was suggested to me to look on meetup.com. I didn't find any close to our area, but you might have better luck.
